The Second Technical Session (TS) of the project ¡°Establishment of a Framework for Researches on Application of Space Technology for Disaster Monitoring in the APSCO Member States Project¡± was held in Beijing, China, from 17 to 22 April, 2017. Experts from Bangladesh, China, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, Peru, Thailand and Turkey attended the meeting.
According to the feasibility study report of the project, the present phase of the project will address the technical activities of the first four priority disaster areas: flood, earthquake, landslides/avalanches and drought. Among these four disasters, the Second Technical Session covered the technical activities of landslides/avalanches and drought.
Dr. Manop Aorpimai, Director General, Department of Strategic Planning and Program Management of APSCO chaired the Opening Session.
Secretary-General of APSCO Dr.Li Xinjun delivered the welcome speech. He emphasized the importance of the project and mentioned the success of the First Technical Session held in Bangkok, Thailand from 19 to 24 January, 2017. Also, he expressed his idea to initiate and establish a similar mechanism like International Disaster Charter (IDC) among Member States based on outcome of Framework project of APSCO.
Mr. A. Z. Md. Zahedul Islam, Project Manager from Bangladesh gave an introduction on the project. Member States presented their best practices on landslides/avalanches and droughts.
During the discussion session, there were 17 issues on landslides/avalanches and 15 issues on drought raised and discussed by the Experts of the Member States.
Also, Experts from Member States visited National Satellite Meteorological Center of China and exchanged views on important roles in space weather observations.
The Second Technical Session of Framework project was concluded successfully. The participating Experts of the Member States worked hard to make all the activities of Second Technical Session fruitful. The Experts expressed their gratitude to APSCO for their hospitalities, cooperation and efficient performances during the meeting.
