On June 5, 2017, a delegation from South African National Space Agency (SANSA), comprising Dr. Valanathan Munsami, the Chief Executive Officer, SANSA and the accompanying delegate Ms. Asanda Sangoni visited Headquarters of Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO), in Beijing, China.
Dr. LI Xinjun, the Secretary-General of APSCO; Mr. Nasir Mahmood, Dr. Manop Aorpimai, Mr. Nur Hossain Sharifee and Ms. Erdinee Byambasuren attended the Meeting. Mr. Nasir Mahmood introduced APSCO to the visiting delegation. The CEO SANSA was also introduced the purpose, role and cooperative activities of APSCO; its achievements, and international character; the benefits of APSCO Members and the prospects for South Africa in considering Membership with APSCO.
Dr. Valanathan Munsami, was very pleased with the initial engagement with APSCO and expressed hope that the cooperation with APSCO. He was inquisitive on how APSCO evolved and how it is carrying on with a regional Organization. He expressed his interest to have cooperation between APSCO and South Africa. He elaborated four possible levels of Cooperation with APSCO: cooperation between South Africa and APSCO; cooperation between APSCO and African Union; cooperation at GEO; and Cooperation between APSCO & BRICS.
Dr. Valanathan Munsami, was provided with all necessary documents to facilitate their decision-making as and when feasible for South Africa to consider joining APSCO as an Associate Member.
