APSCO Youth Space Contest 2017 --¡®Future Space Homeland¡¯

15-21 July 2017 - Beijing, China

The final of 2017 ¡®Future Space Homeland¡¯ APSCO Youth Space Contest hosted by Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) has been formally completed with students from eight countries, on the same stage, sharing most innovative fantasies about future space homeland at Beijing Bayi School.
Since the contest was launched by APSCO in March this year, participants have worked on a detailed design plan for their own inventions that would be needed to set up a new space home in forms of video, painting, handcraft, essay etc. Finalists were selected to present their ideas in Beijing. The forty-five students participating in this competition came from all Member States of APSCO. Ultimately, Warisa Jaidee, a 15-year-old girl from Thailand, won the contest in the final with her "space debris cleanup beetle". Warisa's beetle is a small satellite, which is able to communicate with and accept instruction through radio waves. When it finds garbage in space, the "beetle" releases a magnetic network to capture it.

Dr. Li Xinjun, Secretary General of APSCO, said at the award ceremony: "Teenagers are the future of science, innovation and the world. This competition aims to stimulate the interest and enthusiasm in space science and aerospace industry of the new generation from all Member States, and create a platform for cultural exchange and idea collision." The competition is the first event organized for teenagers to popularize aerospace science knowledge since the establishment of APSCO.

Other activities, such as ¡®Space Maker Marathon¡¯ to build rocket and launcher models, ¡®My Moon Dream¡¯ to paint wishes that will be recorded and sent to moon by Chang¡¯e 5 Space Probe, are developed continuously in the following day.

The contest is bound to help enhance the youth's innovative spirit, imagination and expressive force, to stimulate the passion and dreams of Asia-Pacific youth to explore the universe, so as to further promote the exchange and cooperation between APSCO Member States.
