The Secretary-General of APSCO, Dr. Li Xinjun and his delegation paid an official visit to Cairo, Egypt during May 5-8, 2018. The purpose of the visit was to facilitate the process of ratification of APSCO Convention by the Republic of Egypt, after its acceptance of status as an Associate Member with APSCO. The delegation was also joined by officials from Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT), and China National Space Administration (CNSA).
Dr. Khaled Atef, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, of Arab Republic of Egypt, welcomed the delegation. Present at the Meeting were also the Chairman National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Science (NARSS), and his representatives. Dr. Li, briefly apprised about the cooperative activities of APSCO, and warmly extended invitation for APSCO¡¯s 10th Anniversary High-Level Forum & 9th International Symposium, being held during 14-16 Nov 2018, at Beijing, China. Further deliberations on matters related to APSCO were made on the next day, on May 7, 2018, at the headquarters of NARSS. Dr. Mahmoud Hussien Ahmed, Chairman NARSS, and his technical team of officials from NARSS attended the Meeting. Detailed presentations were made during the Meeting from both sides, and a very fruitful discussion on queries ensued. APSCO delegation clarified, in sufficient details, on the aspects related to the domestic and diplomatic procedures involved in the ratification of the APSCO Convention. The Meeting agreed on timelines, for completing various procedural milestones, in order to be able to announce the status of Associate Member for Egypt during the APSCO¡¯s 10th Anniversary High-Level Forum ceremony in November 2018, at Beijing, China.
On the same day, a u-group of APSCO delegation visited Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt. The Director of East Asian Affairs, Ms. Noha H. Elgebaly welcomed the delegation. She expressed that MFA would like to extend its full support to accelerate the process of ratification of APSCO Convention and formally join APSCO.
