APSCO Delegation attended the Conference on FY-2 Satellite Service Needs

On September 25, participants from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) countries, World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) gathered in China Meteorological Administration (CMA), Beijing to discuss their needs in terms of FY-2 satellite data reception, product application, and technical exchanges needs. Dr. Li Xinjun, the Secretary General of APSCO and Dr. Mohammad Ebrahimi Seyedabadi, Director General of Department of Education and Training and Database Management of APSCO attended the conference.

On June 10, Chinese President Xi Jinping, President of the People¡¯s Republic of China,  made a commitment during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit held in Qingdao that China was willing to provide meteorological services for all members of SCO by harnessing FY-2 meteorological satellites. In response to this pledge, CMA has established FY satellite remote sensing data service network, set up dedicated account numbers of international emergency response, learn of FY satellite application needs of international users, and formulate preliminary plans.

In the future, China would leverage its 20 WMO centers and WMO Global Multi-Hazard Alert System-Asia (GMAS-A), provide more convenient satellite data and products via Internet, CMACast, public cloud. CMA will also harness FYESM, develop super user application platform, offer refined services, and continue to host international training courses of satellite application. APSCO Member States will also benefit from above mentioned projects.

¡°APSCO Member States would like to get technical support in the data and application of FY-2H satellite. As the satellite maneuvered from 94 to79 degrees east longitude, it would be a great help for APSCO Member States to have more accurate weather forecast and refined forecasting in specific locations. In the meantime, the observation range has been expanded in Southeast Asia, South Asia and East Africa, this kind of resource sharing enables Member States to have more confidence in related cooperation.¡± Dr. Li Xinjun through media, expressed his gratitude to Chinese government during the interview.

APSCO has plans for working closely with Chinese government and CMA in the field of meteorological satellites and its application to improve the meteorological service level in the Member States.
